La Casa que Canta
is a small property of slightly over 2 hectares situated in Barrio
Jesus, Sta. Barbara de Heredia.
On the property
there is:
The main house – Quetzal - that is situated at the entrance and
is comprised of two large bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom
and toilet facilities, a spacious kitchen, living area and bar.
One of the bedrooms includes a large walk – in closet and the second
a small, office. There is direct access to a large BBQ terrace.
Half way down
the drive on the left is a cottage – Torgon – with two bedrooms
and a third room that could be used as an extra bedroom; separate
bathroom and toilet, kitchen / dining area and a private BBQ terrace.
A small, secluded,
cottage – Mot Mot – that includes a small bedroom, bathroom/ toilet,
kitchen and eating area and an outdoor terrace, is situated at the
bottom of the property near tha river.
Three cottages
in a row, one of which has two bedrooms – Toucan -, and the other
two – Lapa Verde & Lapa Roja – have one bedroom. Each cottage
has its own separate bathrooma dn toilet, a kitchen and dining room.
The two bedroomed house has a covered terrace.
All the habitations
are fully equipped: beds, bed linen, bath linen, refrigerator, cooker,
crockery, cutlery, toaster, fruit juice mixers, tables, chairs and
cupboards.
There is a covered
garage for two cars, however there is space for cars in front of
each of the cottages. Hot and cold water (gas) is in all the cottages.
Satellite television is available in the main house and cable television
will be available in all the houses in the course of the next two
months. All the cottages have telephones and fax otlets. For the
moment fax income facilities are not available in each house but
messages can be received on the central machine. E- mail facilities
are also available in the owner’s house.
The property maintains
many fruit trees and ornamental plants, and guests are free to pick
any fruit that is available; six varieties of oranges, three sorts
of bananas, bitter and sweet lemons, limes, mandarins, cass, grapefruit
and more. There is a lot of open grassland at the bottom of the
property that makes an excellent picnic area, or playground for
children. There is a 125 years old Higueron tree with tree house,
and by the river side is the remains of an Indian encampment. Over
60 different species of birds have been observed here. There is
a nice view (especially at night) over Heredia and San Jose.
The property is
safe and secure and is situated in a very calm and pleasant neighborhood.
However the owner ensures that there is 24 hour security..
At the bottom of the road (150 mts.) there is a bus service (every
30 minutes) to either Heredia or Sta. Barbara / Alajuela. Access
is easy to both Heredia and Alajuela where the larger supermarkets
and other commerce can be found, and the Cariari Mall is not far
away. Santa Barbara is 2 km. Away and all basic requirements, including
two pharmacies, and two doctors, can be found there. Also just next
door is a “Pulperia” that is useful for the item you may have forgotten.
Close buy ia a Spanish restaurant “La Luna de Valencia” and just
outside Sta. Barbara is a sea food restaurant – “Balcon de los
Mariscos” – and also – “El Galeron”, a pleasant little local restaurant.
Sta. Barbara has its own discotheque that is open Friday, Saturdays
and Sunday. Local taxi operators are always available and willing
to do business.
There are two
washing machines and drying machine that are available to guests.
Breakfast, midday
and evening meals are available if required.

The Main House

QUETZAL II
The main house
is situated at the top of the property and looks out over the garden
onto Heredia and San Jose in the distance. There are two bedrooms,
one with two single beds, and en suite bedrooms & toilet and
a spacious walk in closet; the second with a king size double bed,
an en suite bathroom and toilet, a small office and telephone (ext
112). Both bedrooms open onto a long corridor that is window for
its full length. The corridor leads into the sitting room ( 62 sq.
mts. ) where there is the satellite television, bar and another
tables. The kitchen (25 sq. mts.) is fully equipped; refrigerator,
cooker, oven, microwave and plenty of cupboard space, a spacious
pantry and laundry room, that includes a washing and drying machines.
In front of the house is a covered patio (50 sq. mts) and at the
other end of the corridor there is a direct access to a fully equipped
and covered BBQ deck. The whole house has hot (gas) and cold water.
BUNGALOW TORGON
This fulle detached
bungalow is set in the upper part of the property and has splendid
view onto the woods around the stream, and over Heredia and San
Jose, which is especially nice at night time. The total surface
area is 95 square meters and there is a fully equipped private BBQ
deck of 16 sq. mts. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed
ant the other with two single beds, however each can be adapted
to meet individual requirements. There is a third room that contains
the cupboards, but is sufficiently spacious to be able to be used
as a third bedroom for two people if necessary. The sanitaries include
a bathroom and shower and separate w. c.. The kitchen is fully equipped
electric cooker, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, fruit juice
maker. The kitchen leads onto the eating area and dining room, where
there is a sofa, two easy chairs and a table. There is hot (gas)
and cold water, telephone (ext 108), a television for local programs
and a covered garage in front of the house. A washing machine and
drying machine are available to residents (col. 500 per load).
BUNGALOW MOT MOT
This fully detached
bungalow is secluded, and situated at the bottom of the property
on the edge of the woods overlooking the stream. The construction
quali8ty is inferior to the other habitations but none the less
is quite safe and sturdy. The total surface area is 37 square meters.
There is a small bedroom with a single bed, although there is room
for a second bed if required. The sanitaries include a w. c., shower
and wash basin. The kitchen, that is also the dining room, is fully
equipped: gas cooker, refrigerator, toaster, four chairs and a bureau.
There is plenty of cupboard space and in front of the cottage is
a small covered terrace with a folding table and easy chair for
the warm evenings listening to the babbling stream. There is hot
(gas) and cold water, telephone (ext 110), and a small television
(black & white). During the dry season there is a parking space
beside the bungalow. Residents have the use of the washing and drying
machines and the satellite television in the main house that is
situated at about 150 mts away from the cottage, but there is lighting
along the path.

This semi-detached
bungalow is set in the middle of the property with a view out over
the grounds and the woods by the stream. The total surface area
is 65 square meters which includes a covered terrace (11 sq. mts.)
that can be used for barbecues etc. There is one double bedroom
and plenty of cupboard space. The sanitaries include separate w.
c., shower and wash basin. The kitchen is fully equipped, gas cooker,
refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, fruit juice maker, shaker and
a small oven. The kitchen that is furnished with a “bistro” table,
and four chairs, gives onto the sitting room that is furnished with
a settee and two easy chairs, a table and bookshelves.. there is
hot (gas) and cold water, a telephone (ext 105) and space in front
of the bungalow to park your car. In the main house residents have
the use of the washing and drying machines, bar, satellite television
and fax line.
Bungalow Lapa
Roja is the same except that the total surface is 55 square meters
and there is no terrace or balcony. The essentials of the inventory
are the same.
BUNGALOW TOUCAN
This semi – detached bungalow is set in the middle of the property
with a view out over the ground and onto Heredia and San Jose, this
is especially nice at night time. The total surface area is 85 square
meters, which includes a covered balcony (6 sq. mts.). There are
two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds, however
each can be adapted to meet individual requirements. There is plenty
of cupboard space and a large free area that can be used for stocking
equipment or material. The sanitaries include separate w.c., shower
and wash basin. The kitchen is fully equipped; gas cooker, refrigerator,
coffee maker, toaster, fruit juicer and a small oven. The kitchen
is separated from the sitting room by a breakfast bar. The sitting
room is furnished with a settee, two easy chairs and a table. There
is hot (gas) and cold water, telephone (ext 101) and television.
There is space in front of the bungalow to park a car. In the main
house residents have the use of the washing and drying machines
as well as the bar and satellite television.
